Hi and thank you for stopping by Born To Be Sassy! My name is Amy Helm and I am proud to be the founder and CEO of Born To Be Sassy!
While this all started as the hobby of a stay at home mom, I could have never imagined that we would be where we are today. I had no intentions of ever building a company.
It all started in our laundry room in the fall of 2003. At the time we had a 3 year old little girl (Madison) and an infant baby boy (Mason). It was so fun to make matching outfits for them. I began this journey by listing the first item on eBay. My husband Heath and I had both decided that if the outfit sold, we would list another and if not, I would just continue sewing for our 2 children. Well, with only a few seconds left in the listing, it sold! And then and there our journey really began.
We opened an eBay store by the name of Lollipops and Gumdrops. We had a seamstress that would come to our house and sew. In March of 2006, we had quickly outgrown our laundry room and had to find a building and a second employee. We found a 600 sq ft building that allowed us to only sign a 6 month lease just in case things didnít work out! It was a very exciting but scary time for us! We hired the second employee. We stayed there for the 6 months and were busting at the seams. We knew we had to move. In October of 2006, we moved to a 2200 square foot facility. We now had 5 employees. By Fall of 2006, we had a new Lollipops and Gumdrops website. We continued to grow and in Spring of 2008 we decided to manufacture a line for market. We then launched Ritzy Tots. Our line was available in both the Atlanta and Dallas markets. After 2 years and much prayer, we decided that market was not the right place for us. The economy was getting worse and companies were going out of business everyday. We were left with a lot of unpaid merchandise. We decided to use Facebook as an avenue to sell all of the already manufactured clothing that we had ready to ship. We started a new Facebook page in Fall of 2010 by the name of Born To Be Sassy. We continued to grow and hire new employees. By fall of 2011, we knew we had to expand again. In January of 2012 we signed a lease for a new 7500 sq. ft. facility. Continuing to grow, by spring of 2013, we then made another huge life changing decision. The business had far exceeded what I could handle on my own anymore. After months of prayer, my husband Heath left a 15 year Postmaster career with the United States Postal Service to become our production manager. We currently have a staff of 14 employees plus Heath and myself.
God has played a huge roll in all of the decisions that we have made. It is our goal to build a Christian company right here in the United States of America. Over 80% of the items that we sell are all manufactured right here in Dadeville, Alabama. We feel that we are now on the path God has planned for us. We canít wait to see what the future has in store for Born To Be Sassy! We could not have done any of this without YOU our loyal BTBS customers. So I say to each of every one of you that we think of you as a part of the BTBS family and we thank you for your support through the past few years. This is only the beginning! I am very fortunate and blessed to be able to do what I love!
